Accountable: Citizens know that Mike Lonergan isn’t afraid to take a stand and explain his reasons. Even those who don't always agree with him respect his straightforward and through way of doing his homework and responding to their concerns.
Trust: Other elected officials have shown their trust in Mike Lonergan by electing him for an unprecedented three terms as Chairman of the Pierce County Regional Council. This organization is made up of Mayors and City Council members from all 21 cities and towns in Pierce County, dealing with sensitive county wide planning and transportation issues.
Integrity: Twice, Mike Lonergan gave back the automatic pay raises granted to City Council members, when they were asking other City employees to forego raises to help balance the City budget. (He was the only Council Member to do so.)
Vision: Mike Lonergan serves as Chairman of the four-county Puget Sound Regional Growth Management Policy Board.
This board has just completed a three-year project titled Vision 2040 which is a blueprint for jobs, housing, transportation and environment for the next thirty years. It was adopted in April 2008 by 97 percent of the cities and towns in the region.
Leadership: All his life, Mike Lonergan has been placed in positions of leadership, because those around him recognize him as a “natural leader.” From High School Student Body President in 1967 to today’s chairmanship of key boards and committees, Mike has always been a person whom people respect and follow.
Effective: Three times in his life, Mike Lonergan has been placed in executive positions organizations facing great financial challenges. Each time, he has been able to turn those organizations around in a short time, inspiring those under his leadership to get better results and find additional resources to produce outstanding results.
Results: Under Mike Lonergan’s direction, the Tacoma Rescue Mission went from a troubled organization with mounting debt to having healthy reserves. Further, the Mission was Certified as one of twenty “Excellent” rated Rescue Missions in the United States, and also one of the top three “Best Places to Work” in Pierce County
